Patron - A Literature OCT

The year is 1931. The Patron of Diesel City is dead.

Hello, and welcome to Patron! Patron is a literature-only original character tournament (OCT), hosted by fancylances (that's me!). It's an alternate timeline historical AU in which superpowers are not only commonplace, but revered—with every city-state in the Nation has a Patron superhero to protect them. And last night, Midnight Strike, the Patron of Diesel City was found dead. Who can take his place?

Huge congrats to both of you for making this such an evil and difficult final to judge. I now have no envy whatsoever to tourney hosts anymore, because this was seriously one of the hardest decisions ever. It almost came down to a coin flip, in one judge's opinion. Both were amazing final pieces of the story, both were well-constructed and fascinating to read. The judges and I agree on one thing: both entries could have been winners. Judge comments will be in soon, I have 2/5 of them submitted already. I'll be contacting folks about your prizes as well.

Really, just thank you—not only to the finalists, but to everyone who made my first tournament a blast. It was a fantastic journey, and I was so glad to have y'all on for the ride. I met some great writers, read some amazing entries, fell in love with some of your characters, and cried a fair bit of tears. It was just so cool. I can't thank everyone enough, really, you're all on my list of awesome people forever. Thanks for putting up with me as a first-time host, and thanks for being understanding. Thanks for believing in us and in yourselves. Thank you.
